Celebrating National Volunteer Month

At Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas, we’ve learned something simple but powerful; when our employees take time to give back – even just one hour – it creates a ripple. It boosts morale. It builds connections. It reminds us that we’re part of something bigger than ourselves.

April is National Volunteer Month and at Blue Cross, volunteering isn’t just about checking a box or logging hours. We’re Kansans serving Kansans so it’s about real people – our friends and neighbors – getting the help they need. A hot meal, a mentor, a safe place to land. And it’s about showing up for each other in ways that matter.

We see it in our coworkers who spend time at local schools teaching financial readiness, or the team that trades a morning meeting for a morning at the food bank. These aren’t headline moments, but they’re heart moments.

That’s why we support volunteerism with paid time off for our employees and focus on partnerships with local nonprofits. Not because it looks good, but because it does good.

So this month, if you’ve got a free afternoon – even just an hour – consider spending it in service. You don’t have to change the whole world, just your corner of it.
