The health insurance marketplace (healthcare.gov) will reopen under a special enrollment period running from Feb. 15 through May 15. This allows anyone who may be uninsured, or underinsured, to sign up for a 2021 health insurance plan.
What you need to know:
- If you enrolled in a 2021 health insurance plan with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas (BCBSKS), you do not need to do anything else. You should have already received your BCBSKS insurance card and welcome packet in the mail. Don’t forget to sign up for your BlueAccess® account to view your benefit information, digital ID cards or change your contact information.
- If you do not have health insurance coverage currently, you can now enroll. Between Feb. 15 and May 15, you can shop for health plans that are available on the Marketplace or directly with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas. Depending on when you shop, your coverage will begin on the first day of the month following your enrollment. For example, if you sign up on Feb. 15 your coverage will start on March 1.
Special enrollment periods are available all year long for people who experience a qualifying event, such as the loss of a job, getting married or the birth of a baby. This one-time special enrollment period allows anyone to get health insurance coverage, even without a qualifying event.
Getting health insurance for you and your family is an important step to better health and well-being. Many Kansans qualify for financial assistance. See if you qualify and compare plans at bcbsks.com/cares or give us a call at 866-679-7824 for answers to any questions you may have about enrollment.
